Pointing at the drawing
Show Cizgen which part of the drawing you mean when you are chatting in Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, or VS Code.
In the panel you mark an area with the + button. Your AI app's chat box isn't ours, so it has no such button — but you can still show Cizgen an area instead of describing it in coordinates. There are two ways, and they cover different moments.
Marks are shared, not per-app: a region you mark with CIZGENREGION is the same region the
panel shows as a chip, and one marked in the panel is visible to your AI app. There is one list
per drawing.
Mark it first: CIZGENREGION
Use this when you already know the area you want to work in.
Run the command in AutoCAD
Type CIZGENREGION at the command line and drag a rectangle over the area. Cizgen outlines it
in orange and labels it A (then B, C, … for further marks).
Refer to it in your chat
Ask for what you want in plain words — "count the radiators in the region I marked", "dimension region B", "what's in the area I selected?". Cizgen reads the mark and treats its bounds as the scope of the work.
The mark stays until you clear it, so one mark can scope an entire conversation. Run
CIZGENREGION again and pick Clear to remove the marks, or List to print them.
If nothing is marked, Cizgen will tell you so and name the command — it won't guess an area or quietly read the whole drawing.
Show it on demand
Sometimes the AI is the one that needs to know where. In that case it asks you to point at the drawing: AutoCAD comes to the foreground and the command line asks for two corners (or for objects, if it needs specific entities).
Drag the rectangle and the conversation continues — Cizgen gets both the exact bounds and a picture of the area, so the model can see what you pointed at, not just its coordinates.
Watch for AutoCAD taking focus. Since the request comes from your chat app, it's easy to miss that AutoCAD is now waiting on you at the command line — the chat will look like it is thinking. You have about five minutes to answer before the request gives up.

Marking needs the Cizgen plugin v1.0.15 or newer. On older plugins the AI will report that the command is unavailable — update the plugin and try again.
